ASSOCIATIONS DISSAPROVE OF SIMONOVIC’S STATEMENT ON MEDIA STRATEGY

Belgrade, October 15, 2010 (Politika) - Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS) and Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) expressed their disagreement with the statement of the Chairman of Managing Board of the Association of Media (ASMEDI) Veselin Simonovic, saying that the drafting of the Media Strategy should not include the participation of journalists' associations, but only the media and those associated to media business-wise, NUNS announced yesterday.

Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM), Independent Journalists' Association of Vojvodina (NDNV) and Business Association Local Press also joined in criticism of the said statement.

"The Media Strategy should be the platform for the entire normative regulation of the information space, therefore the statement of the Editor-in-Chief of daily "Blic" seems to demonstrate the mere intention of managers and owners of the capital in the media industry to create the media legislation in their own discretion and interest", said in the joint statement of these associations.
