DACIC: STATUS OF AUTHORIZED OFFICIAL FOR JOURNALISTS

Belgrade, May 11, 2011 (Politika) - Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said yesterday that the sentences for attacks on journalist would be stiffer than the sentence imposed on the attackers on B92 cameraman Bosko Brankovic if the journalists had the status of authorized officials.  "I don't think that journalist should work for the state, but that their job has social significance and that is why attacks on journalist should have more severe sanctions. Such stiffer sanctions would follow if journalists' position was defined as persons with status of authorized official", the Minister said.
