Jelena Trivan on Media Strategy

Belgrade, September 22, 2011. (Večernje novosti) - Jelena Trivan, MP, vice-president of Democratic Party (DS) and  Parliament's Culture and Information Committee Chairwoman, answered the questions related to the ruling coalition, elections and other issues including the adoption of the Media Strategy.

- At which stage is the development of the Media Strategy, which is also a condition for the EU?

- "Strategy is currently under the final expertise evaluation of the European Commission after which it would be presented and adopted. We are expecting to get a good strategy, based on European law and practice that would enable a fast development of the media industry."

- Establishing regional public service broadcasters was disputable as well as attempt of the parties to get such services in the cities where they are in power?

- That is another mis-statement that follows the adoption of this text. Regional public service broadcasters exist in many EU countries. The working group opted for this solution in order to enable equality of citizens of Serbia when it comes to public information. Regional centers and regions are determined by the Regionalization Strategy that has already been adopted and parties have not intervened in that.

- Will the state entirely give up the ownership in media or there is no political agreement on this issue?

- The working group formed by the Prime Minister created a text in which it proposed the withdrawal of the state from the media ownership. The working stands behind all liberal and modern solutions that enable greater freedoms and equality on the market.
