TV digitalization to start in early 2013
Belgrade, March 7, 2012 (RTS, Tanjug, B92) - Serbia will start introducing digital television in the first quarter of 2013, an official of the Ministry of Culture and Media has said.
Irini Reljin, assistant to the minister in charge of for telecommunications, told state broadcaster RTS on Wednesday that analogue transmitters would be switched off and replaced one by one, and that "this complex process will unfold over 13 coverage zones".
Serbians who use terrestrial antennas will be able to receive 30 to 40 channels once full digitalization has been implemented, while cable and satellite subscribers "will not notice any differences", according to her.
"These will be our national channels with national, regional or local coverage," Reljin added.
This official also said that viewers using antennas will need have a receiver that converts digital signal to analogue, "or whatever format the set is able to receive".
