RBA: BROADCASTERS MUST ALLOW EQUAL TREATMENT
Belgrade, April 11, 2012 (Politika) - During the election campaign, public services are not allowed to sell advertising space to political parties participating in the elections, while commercial broadcasters may decide whether the candidates and their election lists have "earned" a piece in their media space for free. Nevertheless, neither owners nor editors of private media should make their program based on personal political affinity.
"All commercial as well as public broadcasters are required to allow equal presentation of all election lists. The RBA General Instructions are very clear in that sense and binding for all", the RBA Council Member Goran Pekovic told the daily.
Pekovic also explained that this regulatory body regularly monitored the behavior of broadcasters and reminded that the first data had shown that the media reporting on all participants in the election process was so far balanced.
