KORHEC: HUNGARIAN COUNCIL AGAINST THE DRAFT MEDIA LAW

Belgrade, March 26, 2013 (Dnevnik) - The Hungarian National Council urges the withdrawal of the Draft Law on Media, produced by the Ministry of Culture, from the public discussion, said the President of the Council dr Tamas Korhec yesterday in Subotica.

He pointed out that the Council opposed the draft law as it provided for the termination of the today's system of financing print media in national minority languages.

"If the law is adopted in its current text, the Province will be forced to terminate the existing system of financing and replace it with the project financing, which will then jeopardize the survival of media in minority languages", Korhec explained.

Session of the Hungarian National Council has been announced, where the cutdown of the budget from 446 to 444 million dinars will be discussed.
