14 YEARS OF CURUVIJA MURDER

Belgrade, April 11, 2013 (B92, Beta) - On this day 14 years ago, journalist and owner of the newspaper "Daily Telegraph" Slavko Curuvija was gunned down.

The murder has not been solved to this day.

The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS) and Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) will lay flowers in the Svetogorska Street where Curuvija had lived and died, to observe the 14 years of death of the journalist.

Friends, colleagues and family of Curuvija believe that the murder has political background, due to the journalist's critical view of the then Milosevic's regime.

He was killed during the NATO air raids on Easter Day, April 11, 1999, in the Belgrade downtown, with 17 gunshots from behind.

Chairman of the Commission for investigating murders of journalists, Veran Matic, says that all documentation relating to the case was collected from BIA, MUP and Prosecutor's Office. He noted that this was probably one of the largest, the most investigated case in the recent history, and that protected witnesses could make an outbreak in the investigation.
