MEDIA LAW IN PARLIAMENT IN THREE WEEKS

Belgrade, June 6, 2013 (Pregled) - The new text of the Law on Public Information and Media will be forwarded to the Serbian Government, following the final decisions of the competent ministries on the draft, the assistant minister Dragan Kolarevic said yesterday.

Speaking at the press conference, Kolarevic said that informal consultations had already been done, and that the official declarations of these ministries would be requested in a matter of few days. The ministries have around 20 days for the declarations.

Kolarevic however said he was convinced that it would not be necessary to wait that long, adding that if some ministry was unable to declare itself on the text within the given deadline, it would be considered to have no objections.

Kolarevic expects the text of the Law, which would be forwarded to the Government for adoption, will contain certain amendments in relation to the one sent to the public discussion.

According to him, legal experts are still unable to agree on whether the law could affect the articles of some other legislation, such as the Law on Tanjug or the Law on Capital City, or it could only initiate the amendments of these legal documents.

Another change pertains to the list by the Business Register Agency of necessary documents that need to be provided with the request for registration of the media.
