DEGERT: TO IMPLEMENT MEDIA STRATEGY

Belgrade, June 10, 2013 (Blic) - The EU has supported the Media Strategy, which was adopted almost two years ago, however, its implementation must no longer be delayed, the Head of the Delegation of the EU to the Republic of Serbia Vincent Degert said today.

"It is necessary to pass new laws on public information and electronic media", Degert said, adding that the principles were very clear: transparent financing of media through projects and transparent ownership in media. It must be implemented immediately and could be no longer postponed, Degert warned.

As for the financing of public service broadcasters, Degert said that in principle, there were two models of financing - TV subscription fee and budget financing.

Degert believes that TV subscription fee is a transparent model, while financing from the state budget demands more guarantees of the independence of the editorial policy of media. According to him, there is also the possibility to combine the two systems in the transition period.
