MIRKOVIC: GOVERNMENT ON PUBLIC INFORMATION LAW IN NOVEMBER

Belgrade, October 20, 2013 (EurActiv, Beta) - The Assistant to Culture Minister in charge of media Sasa Mirkovic said yesterday that the Serbian Government would discuss the Draft Law on Public Information in November.

In an interview to Beta news agency, Mirkovic said that the priority of the Ministry in this moment were the public debates on laws on electronic media and public service broadcasters, planned to be concluded by the end of the month.

After the discussions, the Ministry and the EU should deliver the opinion before the draft laws are tabled to the Parliament.

Mirkovic also said it was very hard to discuss the deadlines for adoption of the law on electronic media and the law on public services, as it not only depended on the Ministry, but other actors in the process as well.

"It would be realistic to say that we will get the comments on the drafts from Brussels in November. Since we would probably have to fine-tune the texts of the laws, I hope that they could be forwarded to the Parliament for adoption in mid-December at best", Mirkovic said.
