STRONGER ROLE OF PRESS COUNCIL

Belgrade, November 13, 2013 (Tanjug, RTV) - Representatives of media and journalists' associations emphasized today the need for greater level of self-regulation in media and respect of decisions made by the Press Council as the body for protecting ethical reporting and balancing between right to privacy and right of the public to know.

At the panel discussion "Responsible Journalism through Self-regulation", the results of work of this body were presented through concrete examples of problems and dilemmas faced by its members while acting upon the complaints of citizens.

Namely, the Press Council has received in the last two years around one hundred of complaints and reached around fifty decisions, half of which point to unquestionable violation of code of journalism, mostly in the cases of incorrect reporting.
