KACIN: CHAPTER 23 WILL NOT BE OPENED WITHOUT MEDIA REFORM
"It should be clearly said that chapter 23, which includes the media, will not be opened without fulfilling criteria and without visible reforms and changes for the better in the media", Kacin said to journalists in Brussels, after the panel about media freedoms in Serbia.
He also stated that the accession to the EU and the negotiation process can not be successfully completed without active participation of the media, who can not be mere observers, but have to be players, as well.
Kacin stressed that the burning issue of journalism is self-censorship and that the media must play a much larger role in the maturing of the Serbian society.
"The answer to the basic question when we will be better is that we will be better when we conduct reforms and create a better foundation, and the integral part of that story are the media and their ownership", said Kacin.
