ANEM database on the actions of the police, the prosecution, and the courts in SLAPP and other proceedings against journalists and media.
The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) has launched several public online databases that provide information to all interested parties regarding the actions of the police, prosecutors, and courts in cases of threats and attacks on journalists, as well as all cases of SLAPP lawsuits against journalists and media outlets.

The databases contain information on all initiated proceedings concerning the endangerment of the safety of journalists and media workers before domestic courts over the past five years. Researchers, media, institutions, and the public have access to information about:
The actions of prosecutors and police in cases initiated based on reports from journalists, media, and media associations regarding the endangerment of journalists' safety. In addition to standard data (name and gender of the journalist/media who was threatened or attacked, criminal offense/description, date and place of the incident, competent prosecutor's office, case number, actions taken), this database has been expanded to include data obtained from the majority of prosecutors' offices in the country about the communication between the prosecutor's office and the police, including the date when information was requested from the police, the date when the police responded, information regarding emergencies if the police did not respond promptly, whether proceedings were initiated due to the untimely provision of information by the police; reasons for the suspension of proceedings before the prosecutor's office obtained from official notes, decisions on dismissing criminal charges, and requests for postponement of criminal prosecution;
The actions of courts in initiated cases and their outcomes, which include, among other things, data on the media/journalist for whose endangerment proceedings were initiated, the qualification of the criminal offense, the manner and date of the conclusion of the proceedings before the first-instance court, the security measures imposed, appeals, second-instance proceedings and their conclusion, as well as the total duration of the entire process;
The treatment of lawsuits with SLAPP characteristics (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) against journalists and media within the judicial system of Serbia. Information is available regarding who initiated lawsuits against which media, at what stage they are, how long the proceedings have lasted, the reasons for initiating lawsuits, and what penalties have been requested.
All three databases were created and are updated by the ANEM team of legal and media experts. These databases will not only serve the purpose of creating analyses, recommendations, new protocols, and manuals, but should also make the work of the prosecutor's office, police, and the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists more efficient.
