Four members of the REM Council wrote to international officials regarding the Informer case.
Four members of the Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) have informed international officials about what they described as the body's inability to exercise its legal authority during the election campaign, as it failed to make decisions on two complaints against the television station Informer within the 72-hour timeframe.

In a letter addressed to representatives of the European Union and international diplomatic missions, Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, Ira Prodanov Krajšnik, Mileva Malešić, and Rodoljub Šabić stated that the REM Council initiated two investigative procedures against Informer on October 6, due to suspicions of rule violations during the election campaign. However, no decisions were adopted at the meeting on October 9, as none of the proposals received the necessary five votes.
They pointed out that the Law on Electronic Media stipulates a deadline of 72 hours for making and delivering a decision that concludes the proceedings in cases related to violations during the election campaign, and assessed that REM did not act within the legal timeframe.
According to data presented at the meeting, REM received several dozen complaints against media service providers from October 5 to 9, most of which concerned Informer.
Members of the REM Council also noted that the television station is still not covered by systematic monitoring of the election campaign, which they linked to the actions of pro-government members of the Council at the meeting on September 28.
The letter states that reports from the REM expert service during the meeting on October 9 were subjected to sharp attacks and disputes from the editors of Informer and members of the Council, whom the signatories describe as pro-government, although they claim that when initiating the procedures, they had no objections to the same findings.
Four Council members also assessed that decisions in several other proceedings initiated due to suspicions of serious violations of the Law on Electronic Media, to the detriment of opposition participants in the electoral process, were prevented at the same meeting.
They requested international officials to note that REM does not conclude electoral proceedings within the legal deadline, to assess the actual ability of this body to make and implement decisions in further monitoring, and to take these circumstances into account when evaluating the equality of electoral conditions, media pluralism, and the integrity of the electoral process.
The signatories reiterated the demand for a reconsideration of previous assessments by the European Commission regarding the process of electing members of REM, including the statement from the information note from July 2026 that the authorities adopted a "constructive approach."
They assessed that the consequences of the problems in REM's operations are no longer just a risk of institutional blockage, but that they directly affect the conduct of a lawful and fair electoral process.
