Kovač: A set of media and electoral laws and the election of the REM may occur by mid-June.

The President of the Committee of the Assembly of Serbia for European Integrations, Elvira Kovač, stated today that a new set of media and electoral laws, as well as the election of a new Council of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM), which she referred to as the "condition of all conditions" for the opening of Cluster 3 in Serbia's negotiations for accession to the European Union, could be adopted by mid-June.

Kovač: A set of media and electoral laws and the election of the REM may occur by mid-June.

Kovač stated for Radio-Television of Serbia that the laws, at least those for which there is an opinion from the European Commission, should be presented to the Government of Serbia in the coming days.

"When they pass through the Government, to avoid receiving criticism again—so that it does not go through an urgent procedure—it must stand in the Assembly for 15 days, which means that there will be a session of the National Assembly of Serbia in the first half of June. I still do not know the exact date, but we would discuss and ultimately adopt these laws there," she said.

Speaking about the selection of the REM Council, she mentioned that the procedure was initiated on May 8 and that there is a 15-day deadline for candidate applications.

"After several sessions of the Committee for Culture and Information, I believe it is realistic for this to be completed by the end of May. Therefore, from the beginning to the first half of June, we could deliver all of this," added Kovač.
