Journalistic associations are coordinating candidates for members of the REM Council on October 20 at the National Assembly.

Representatives from three authorized proposers - the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS), the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS), and the Professional Association of Journalists of Serbia (PROUNS) were invited to agree on candidates.

The list of candidates proposed by the journalists' associations includes Mileva Malešić and Đorđe Vlajić (nominated by both UNS and NUNS) and Maja Mišković Marković (nominated by PROUNS).

At the meeting, UNS, NUNS, and PROUNS will vote to determine a joint proposal for two out of the three candidates who will proceed to the parliamentary procedure.

After that, the Assembly will elect one member for the REM Council by voting, both from this group and from the remaining eight groups.

According to the Law on Electronic Media, candidates in the category of journalists' associations are proposed by journalists' associations in the Republic of Serbia, each of which must have at least 300 members with paid membership fees and must have been registered for at least three years prior to the public call.

Additionally, the Culture and Information Committee adopted the list of organizations and candidates for the election of members of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) from the remaining two categories - associations of composers, filmmakers, stage, and dramatic artists, and associations for the protection of children, thereby establishing the list of authorized proposers and candidates from all nine categories.

It is worth noting that the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media has not existed for more than 11 months, since November 4, 2024, when, in accordance with the Law on Electronic Media, the previous composition of the Council ceased its mandate.
