President of REM: One of our first tasks will be monitoring the media during the election campaign.

Smederevac stated for RTS that REM will monitor broadcasters 24 hours a day during the campaign, just as it did during previous elections, and that no radio and television media service providers will be exempt from oversight.

"The moment in which this is happening is politically very complex, the campaign is ongoing, so there is a significant workload for the Council and the services. The services operate according to established and long-standing practices when it comes to electoral cycles, and there is a debate within the Council about which broadcasters will be monitored," said Smederevac, who was elected president of the REM Council yesterday during the fourth session of the constitutive meeting of this body, which is expected to decide later on the proposal to expand the list of media for monitoring, including monitoring Informer.

According to Smederevac, the fundamental principle is that the entire process is conducted democratically, and that all participants in the electoral race have the right to receive space to express their opinions and address the citizens, that the media report their views equally, in a balanced and objective manner, without favoring or attacking, in accordance with everything stated in the Law on Electronic Media.

Speaking about the establishment of the management boards of public services, Smederevac mentioned that a competition for filling the positions is forthcoming, which is a procedure that requires some time.

He emphasized that the management boards must be constituted as soon as possible so that public services can operate at full capacity, and he announced that the Council plans to amend the Rules of Procedure of REM, as well as the Statute which is awaiting adoption.
