The course is intended for freelance journalists, editors, and other media professionals who do not have prior experience in the field of digital security. Participants will learn how to assess their digital risks and how they can use encryption and multi-factor authentication, among other techniques, to enhance their security. By the end of the training, participants will also be equipped to confront online harassment and censorship.

The course is led by Luis Asardo, a freelance digital security trainer, open-source information (OSINT) researcher, and investigative journalist specializing in data. He also collaborates with organizations such as the Holistic Protection Collective (HPC), Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), and other human rights organizations, providing protocols, risk assessments, and training for journalists who have been attacked.

Asardo is also the founder of the Confirmado project in Guatemala, which has been combating misinformation since 2018. He has received awards for his investigative work on misinformation, troll farms, hate speech, and online extremism.

The course will be held online and will be available in English and Spanish. It will run from July 7 to August 3, 2025, and registered participants will have access to materials throughout the duration of the course. The course is completely free.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to:
