Saša Mirković on the election for the REM Council: We are in a kind of vacuum; there is political instrumentalization of the process.

"From this perspective, it is completely clear that we will not have a new composition of the REM Council in the foreseeable future," stated Saša Mirković, a representative of ANEM and a previous candidate for a member of the REM Council in the first process, to Mašina.

Saša Mirković on the election for the REM Council: We are in a kind of vacuum; there is political instrumentalization of the process.

Mirković pointed out regarding the completed process of electing the REM Council that we are currently in a sort of vacuum.

“For the simple reason that four of the elected candidates have announced their resignations. On the other hand, the ninth candidate from the sphere of national councils of national minorities was not elected. The Committee for Culture and Information has convened and announced a new public call, so essentially, as long as these resignations are not officially submitted to REM, we cannot expect new public calls,” said Mirković.

As the interlocutor from Mašina assesses, it is completely clear from this perspective that we will not have a new composition of the REM Council anytime soon.

“We are still in the political arena, for the simple reason that we expect this situation to be resolved after the parliamentary majority, at the invitation of the representative of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians and the Vice President of the Assembly, decided not to vote exclusively in that category of national councils of national minorities, which makes the entire process even more complicated and complex. This indicates that there is a political instrumentalization of the process that was not present in the other eight categories, where the majority elected members of the REM Council, four of whom, I reiterate, have since announced their resignations,” concludes Mirković.
