ANEM ALARM: Cloned websites N1 and Vreme

The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) warns citizens and the media public that false and cloned portals have emerged, which automatically take content mainly from professional editorial offices and publish it on domains that can mislead the audience. The latest target of these attacks is the N1 portal. Prior to this, the site Vesti Vreme was created, which copies the name and visual identity of the weekly magazine Vreme.

ANEM ALARM: Cloned websites N1 and Vreme

The N1 website uses the domain n1info.rs, while the cloned site has taken a similar domain, n1rs.info. This site is hosted on shared hosting in Romania and automatically retrieves and publishes content from several websites, including Nova.rs and several members of ANEM. The content from independent media is mixed with that from tabloids such as Kurir and Telegraf, all under the cloned portal with a domain similar to N1. More than 800 different sites and domains from around the world are located on the same IP address. Automatic content retrieval has been registered through “pingback messages” which are not sent by actual readers but by an automated bot after it retrieves text and links from another portal.

ANEM warns that cloning professional and critical media represents yet another mechanism of political control over the information space during the pre-election period, through confusing the public, attempting to undermine the credibility of editorial offices, and suppressing their content in favor of media aligned with the authorities.

ANEM reminds that this is not the first case in which media or portals using the name, identity, or visual elements of already existing professional editorial offices have appeared in Serbia. Similar cases have previously been noted by Južne vesti, OzonPress, GMINFO, Kolubarske, and the Kompas project, which were launched in 2023 by the weekly Vreme, Nova ekonomija, and the news agency FoNet, after which two more media outlets with the same name emerged. Behind several of these false "doppelgangers" were interconnected companies whose portals promoted the SNS and local authorities, while these companies simultaneously received millions from local budgets through competitions for media project co-financing.

Since the beginning of 2026, 100 new media outlets have been officially registered in Serbia. By analyzing data from the Media Register of the Business Registers Agency (APR), ANEM determined that the majority of registered internet media, a total of 93, were followed by six print media and one radio station. Currently, 2,350 public media outlets are registered in the Media Register.

As a reminder, since January 1, the newly established company Zapple Media Group has opened a total of 13 portals. The company Best Media Team, owned by the publishers of the tabloids Alo and Informer, has purchased several local media outlets in Serbia since the beginning of the year and registered two new local portals. Večernje novosti registered Srpski kompas as a weekly and as an internet portal.

The APR has registered the portal Božur, based in Gračanica in Kosovo, which is the 31st media outlet owned by retired officer Slavko Stijaković. Radoica Milosavljević, who previously had 12 media outlets, has recently registered the portal Koreni.

Among the newly registered portals, a significant number represent local media.

Observing the total number of registered media on the APR website daily, it can be seen that about a dozen public media outlets have been shut down in the meantime, as there were 2,262 media outlets at the end of 2025, and currently, there are 2,350.

A list of all media registered since the beginning of the year, for which ANEM has accessed data through the Media Register search of the APR, is available on the ANEM website.
