ANEM Alarm: The rhetoric of the authorities, instead of being sanctioned, spreads like an epidemic.
A colleague who has been receiving threats and disturbing messages daily for the past ten years – which are becoming increasingly brutal, mirroring the rhetoric of government representatives and the ruling party – is completely unprotected. There is no preventive mechanism or effective response from the judicial system.
Threats include insinuations that the most severe consequences will be borne by members of his family, attacks on his mother, as well as impunity for numerous other attacks, except in rare cases where guilt is acknowledged to mitigate punishment.
The "Good, Bad, Evil" duo represents the most targeted team that the system has failed to protect: one of them lives in exile, while the other, for family reasons, has remained in the country and is exposed to terrifying attacks.
Nenad Kulačin received a message in his inbox with the following content:
“You Ustaša scum, I WILL SHOVE YOU UP YOUR USTAŠA MOTHER and father and everything you have, Ustaša fool!!! I’LL FUCK YOUR DEAD bastard, USTAŠA SHIT...”
No one from the media community reported this message to the authorities. We believe it is important for the public to hear it – because today it is a message to a journalist, and tomorrow it could be a message to any citizen. And not just a message: it will be a knife threat, as in the case of a citizen who, spurred on by toxic content on television channels like Informer TV, attacked a journalist.
ANEM demands that our colleagues, like Nenad Kulačin, be protected from threats and attacks at all times, as well as their families. Serbia must guarantee the safety of every journalist and media worker.
