The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) strongly condemns the detention of photojournalist Gavrilo Andrić. Andrić has been photographing student protests for the past several months. He was deprived of his freedom during the protests of citizens in front of the courthouse in Novi Sad. According to information available in the media, he was released by the police two hours after his detention.
The detention of media workers directly reflects the intent to prevent the public from being informed about events that most directly concern them. Objective and timely information is the only light in the darkness of disinformation, the increase of which leads to immeasurable consequences.
In this sense, photographic reports represent invaluable material, both for the present and for the future, in which they can help establish the truth.
We remind you that without the recording, it would not have been known that the claim that students attacked a plainclothes police officer in front of the RTS building is completely unfounded. The footage showed that the attacker was a colleague of the injured police officer.
