Six new members have joined ANEM.

The following have joined ANEM:

• JuGMedia from Leskovac,
• Kovinske info from Kovin,
• Južna pruga from Niš,
• Likvidno from Kraljevo,
• Szabad Magyar Szo, and
• Vojvođanska slobodna reč from Senta.

The ANEM Board of Directors has assessed that the new members represent examples of professional and independent media in Serbia and that they will significantly contribute to the more effective functioning of the organization, which has been in existence since 1993.

“Local media and regional media, civil society media that report professionally, that respect the journalistic code, and that recognize the authority of the Press Council, which are the 'watchdogs of the public interest' at the local level, were the 'backbone of the march on Belgrade for a peaceful change of power on October 5, 2000.' Today, ANEM is the target of daily threats and attacks from the ruling party's bullies and the shock troops of tabloid media that endanger the safety of journalists and media. Despite this, ANEM, as a network of professional media in Serbia currently defending the public space from darkness, is growing. As of today, we have 53 members, we are stronger and more determined to continue defending the free voice in Serbia and the public's right to independent and verified information. The growth of membership and the strengthening of ANEM are becoming obstacles that the authorities are trying to crush through violence. However, the politics and violence toward journalists and media represented in the 1990s by Aleksandar Vučić and Ivica Dačić have been defeated," stated Veran Matić, President of the ANEM Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors, which includes Slobodan Krajnović and Miodrag Tadić alongside Matić, has called on all media that respect professional and ethical standards to join ANEM in the common struggle for a better media environment in Serbia, for a responsible state based on the rule of law.
