Bekerat: Independent media as guardians of the public interest.
The Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation in Serbia, Andreas von Beekerat, stated this evening that independent media are guardians of the public interest, calling for accountability from those in power. Therefore, he expects the relevant authorities to urgently take action regarding the verbal and physical threats and attacks on journalists.
“We held a meeting on the safety of journalists. Independent media are guardians of the public interest, calling for accountability from those in power,” stated Fon Beckerath in a post on the social network X following the meeting of ambassadors from EU member states in Serbia with representatives of the media community.
“We expect the relevant authorities to urgently take action regarding verbal and physical threats and attacks, as well as to publicly condemn any such cases,” emphasized Fon Beckerath.
