Civilian: List of candidates for the REM Council who do not meet the requirements.

At the press conference of Civil Initiatives, where the findings of the analysis of the ongoing process for the selection of members of the REM Council were presented, she highlighted that there are many more proposers and candidates in all areas in the new process, but that the situation is problematic due to the large number of organizations that are close to the authorities and do not meet the requirements.

On the list of candidates who, according to their assessment, do not meet the legal requirements are Stevica Smederevac, Žarko Simović, Bojan Biblija, Milan Petković, Jovana Vitez, Miloš Garić, Nada Vujović, Maja Mišković Marković, Vladimir Đurić, Tanja Janković, Ištvan Bodžoni, and Sanja Anđelković.

Stojanović explained that the most problems were observed in the area concerning the protection of children, where the highest number of illegitimate candidates has been reported, who could disrupt the selection process and affect its regularity, both in that area and throughout the entire process.

According to her, the good news is that there are candidates meeting the requirements in eight areas, which indicates that the Assembly has the opportunity to elect an independent REM Council.

"What we see from the organization of these various proposers is that illegitimate candidates have the most proposers," Stojanović said.

She assessed that if there is an agreement among such a problematic composition of proposers and candidates, we will again end up with a REM that does not meet even the minimum conditions for operation.

The author of the analysis, Uroš Jovanović, stated that the Assembly President Ana Brnabić presented inaccurate information about Civil Initiatives and candidate Antonela Rihi at the press conference.

In his view, Brnabić's direct involvement in the process aims to exert political pressure on the Culture and Information Committee.

Jovanović emphasized that some candidates do not have publicly visible biographies and that it is impossible to find information about their social merits and work in the field of electronic media, and that some proposing organizations have not published financial reports for the previous year.

He believes that the absence of such types of information undermines trust in the commitment of these organizations to freedom of expression.

The entire analysis has been published in the section on our portal REM-analyses.
