Report of the Permanent Working Group for Journalist Safety for the Year 2025

The OSCE Mission in Serbia has published the annual report of the Standing Working Group on the Safety of Journalists for the year 2025, in honor of World Press Freedom Day. This year, the authors were Tatjana Vasiljević Veljković, Dragana Bjelica, and Miroslav Janković.

According to data from the Supreme Public Prosecutor's Office, the number of cases involving crimes against journalists increased by 106.15% last year—from 65 in 2024 to 134 in 2025. The number of physical attacks on journalists sharply rose by 366.67%—from 6 in 2024 to 28 in 2025.

Additionally, a total of 33 cases were resolved in the previous year, which accounts for 24.63% of the total number of cases formed, a decrease compared to 2024, when 27.42% were resolved.

In the cases formed during 2025, three convictions were handed down, which is more than in 2024, when only one conviction was issued, but significantly less compared to 2023, when convictions were made in 12 cases.
