Jan Bratu: The smear campaign against Veran Matić poses a threat to his safety.

He emphasized in a social media post that he joins the "Public Warning" issued by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality of Serbia, Milan Antonijević, which stated that such attacks threaten both the right to information and freedom of expression.

"I fully agree that all reported cases of threats and attacks on journalists must be investigated and prosecuted, which is also an obligation under the OSCE. As I have previously pointed out, differences of opinion can never justify threats, harassment, or violence. The smear campaign directed against journalist and media freedom advocate Veran Matić further fuels an atmosphere of intimidation that poses a danger to his safety, as well as to the safety of the profession itself," Bratu stated.

As a reminder, national frequency television stations B92 and Prva, along with the cable television channel Informer, aired a documentary film about Veran Matić in prime time, which, according to assessments from journalistic and media associations, could have serious consequences and jeopardize the safety of Veran Matić, the President of the Managing Board of the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM).

In the film, the President of the ANEM Managing Board is dangerously targeted by distorting facts, placing him in a narrative and context that portrays Matić as a traitor to Serbia, a foreign mercenary, and an agent, along with accusations of embezzling vast sums of money, which indirectly calls for the lynching of Veran Matić.

This film, titled "Evil Era," was produced by the Center for Social Stability, which is already known for similar works that label media, organizations, and individuals who critically address the activities of the authorities and issues in the state and society in the most horrific terms.
