KRIK is the first investigative media outlet in Serbia with a journalism excellence certification.
KRIK is the first investigative media outlet in Serbia to receive the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) certification, an international standard of journalistic excellence established by Reporters Without Borders, a non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting media freedom and journalists. JTI is a standard for validating and promoting credible and professional journalism.
The certificate from the JTI confirms that KRIK adheres to the highest standards of professionalism and transparency, maintains a consistent editorial policy, and operates independently. KRIK is characterized by transparency regarding ownership and finances and upholds the highest journalistic standards.
The acquisition of the certificate was preceded by a detailed self-assessment process designed to help media organizations evaluate their transparency, independence, and professionalism, with the results published in the JTI report. An external auditor then verified whether KRIK had all the necessary procedures in place and applied professional standards, as well as whether it adhered to journalistic principles and ethics. Following their confirmation, KRIK received the certificate.
JTI is an international standard for certifying and promoting credible and professional journalism, and it also assists readers in more easily identifying verified sources of journalistic content, thereby restoring trust in the media landscape.
KRIK is part of a group of over one hundred certified media outlets worldwide. Alongside KRIK, this certificate is also held by Istinomer in Serbia.
KRIK is an investigative media organization founded ten years ago by a group of investigative journalists from Serbia. We publish investigative stories about high-level corruption in Serbia, concerning suspicious and corrupt activities of those in significant positions within the state or holding power, as well as the connections between organized crime and government representatives.
KRIK has launched the portal RasKRIKavanje, which focuses on exposing media manipulation and fake news, and has published several databases, such as the politicians' asset database containing information about the assets and income of government and opposition representatives, and the judges database “Prosudi ko sudi”, which contains profiles of judges involved in the most significant cases in the country.
Members of the global network of investigative media, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), and several other international journalism organizations.
They are recipients of numerous international and domestic journalism awards.
