NDNV and ANEM: Unacceptable insults and threats against the journalists of the portal Magločistač.

The Magločistač portal received a threat yesterday via its official email stating that everyone working in that editorial office would be identified, with the message: “You should NOT BE KILLED as one member of the Progressive Party wrote a few months ago; those of you in the Magločistač editorial office should be thrown out onto the street and banned from reporting. I will identify each of you who works in the editorial office and all of you. You have my details; I am not a coward like you to hide behind fake profiles and foolish 'ethics'.”

It is particularly concerning that the perpetrators who threaten journalists no longer hide behind anonymous profiles but feel free to insult and threaten under their full name, believing that violence is permissible.

The escalation of threats against journalists that we are witnessing is a consequence of years of impunity and inaction by the relevant authorities regarding the endangerment of the safety of numerous journalists in Serbia.

Local media and journalists are particularly exposed to various forms of pressure, threats, and insults, and they require unequivocal and concrete support from both the media and the broader community.

We warn institutions that the normalization of violence against journalists endangers the safety of all citizens, as well as the institutions themselves, which, through inaction, allow and encourage the erosion of the legal system.
