The president of the REM Council was not elected at the first meeting.
At today's constitutive meeting of the Regulatory Council of Electronic Media (REM), a president was not elected, as the two candidates - Miloš Garić and Mileva Malesević - received the same number of votes.
Chairwoman Dubravka Valić Nedeljković states that nuances have been decisive and that she expects the next meeting, which should be convened soon, by the end of the month, to elect a president and a vice president.
Valić Nedeljković emphasizes that during today's meeting she observed constructiveness among all members of the REM Council, and they reached an agreement on what qualifications the president of the Council should possess in terms of professional and educational background, media experience, and public space engagement, as well as regarding the length of the term.
"As long as a president or chairperson is not elected, the person who is the oldest member of the Council, which is me, will preside until a consensus is established," explains Valić Nedeljković, adding that a president must be elected in order for them to begin addressing important issues concerning REM.
She told reporters that there are "so many unresolved problems that it is incredible," and that the REM Council will have to work even during the summer.
Let us recall that the REM Council is operating with a reduced membership, as the ninth member of this body, who should represent minorities, has not been elected, and the term of the members of the previous composition of the REM Council expired back in November 2024.
