NUNS and UNS provided helmets for journalists in the field.

Due to the prolonged social crisis and protests that have lasted for nearly a year, the risks to the safety of journalists are high. NUNS has recorded 289 threats, pressures, and attacks on media workers since the beginning of the year.

NUNS and UNS provided helmets for journalists in the field.

We would like to inform you that NUNS has procured (and is still in the process of procuring) helmets and standard fluorescent PRESS vests for its members. We are currently procuring protective PRESS bulletproof vests.

As the equipment is very expensive and limited in availability, we have decided to introduce a model of free rental for bulletproof vests and helmets to ensure the fairest distribution.

Attached you will find the Regulations on the Allocation and Use of Protective Equipment for Journalists. We highlight the most important points:

  • The equipment (protective helmets) is the property of NUNS and is used exclusively for professional purposes in high-risk field situations (e.g., protests, crisis situations, natural disasters).
  • Who it is issued to:
    • member – freelancer: a maximum of 1 piece (helmet),
    • editorial office: a maximum of 2 pieces (at any given time; more may be available if there is unallocated equipment).
  • It is necessary to have a valid PRESS ID from NUNS.
  • A request for a loan must be sent at least 3 days in advance; equipment is issued with a receipt and for a period of up to 7 days (with the possibility of extension with NUNS's approval).
  • Upon pick-up, the following must be provided: personal information, a copy of the journalistic accreditation/valid PRESS ID from NUNS, and confirmation from the editor regarding the field assignment (preferred for freelancers, but not mandatory).
  • The user is obligated to keep and return the equipment in good condition and to immediately inform NUNS of any delays, damage, or loss.
  • NUNS is not responsible for the circumstances of equipment use or for any injuries to the user.

PRESS stickers and fluorescent PRESS vests: For colleagues who own their own equipment without visible PRESS markings, we have printed PRESS stickers. Stickers and fluorescent PRESS vests can be picked up at the NUNS office (Resavska 28/II, Belgrade) during working hours.

How to submit a request for equipment:

  • Send an email to [rade.djuric@nuns.rs] with the subject "Request for Protective Equipment," along with the required documentation (as mentioned above) and the period for which you need the equipment.
  • For urgent situations, call [066/8822006].

The Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) has also provided protective helmets with PRESS markings for journalists and media workers, intended for reporting in risky situations in the field, as well as PRESS vests, so that they can be clearly identified and protected while performing their work.

Colleagues can pick up helmets and vests at the UNS office in Belgrade (Resavska 28/I), in the DNV-UNS office in Novi Sad (Bulevar Mihajla Pupina 6/III), as well as in the office in Gračanica (Ulica Cara Lazara) every working day from 10 AM to 1 PM.

To pick up the equipment, it is necessary to show an UNS ID or the ID of the media for which the journalist works or reports.

Protective helmets are issued on a receipt and must be returned within 10 days of pick-up.

Colleagues from other locations, members of UNS with paid membership for 2025, can have PRESS vests sent by mail. Those who wish to have their PRESS vests sent by mail should contact unsinfo@uns.org.rs and provide their name and surname, the media they work with or collaborate with, their address, and the number of their journalistic ID.

Each colleague can pick up one PRESS vest and one helmet.

For more information regarding the pick-up of PRESS helmets and vests in Gračanica and Novi Sad, you can contact colleagues Jelena Marković (tel: +381640623865) and Ljiljana Remecki (+381603077227).
