Announcement of the call for nominations for members of the REM Council.

During the day, the same Public Call should be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia and is also available on the website of the Republican Parliament.

The Committee for Culture and Information has published a public call based on Article 13 of the Law on Electronic Media, in connection with Article 126 of the Law and the Decision to initiate the process for proposing candidates for the election of members of the REM Council, which was adopted on April 28 of this year.

The deadline for submitting candidate proposals for members of the REM Council is prescribed by the provisions of the Law on Electronic Media and will last for 15 days, starting from the day following the publication of this public call in the Official Gazette.

As stated in the call published in today's edition of Politika, only experts in fields relevant to the responsibilities of the REM Council may be elected to the Council.

A member of the Council can be someone who has a good public reputation and who advocates for freedom of expression, free flow of information, the realization of human rights, the development of civil society, the enhancement of democracy, and respect for constitutionalism and legality, as mentioned in the call.

Additionally, a member of the Council can only be someone with a higher education at the undergraduate level, with at least 240 ECTS credits, or an undergraduate degree lasting at least four years, who is a citizen of the Republic of Serbia and has a residence in the territory of the Republic of Serbia.

When proposing and electing members of the Council, it is necessary to consider the principle of gender equality, as stated in the call.

The previous competition from November of last year was annulled after a number of candidates withdrew from the process due to identified irregularities.

Students blocked the RTS building for two weeks in April, announcing that the blockade would continue until a new competition for members of the REM Council was announced.
