Euronews Serbia's response to the news of the termination of Marija Šehić.

Euronews Serbia has been under constant attack for weeks from false accusations, slander, and unfounded claims about "harassment," a ban on questioning the authorities, and censorship, which do not even require a rebuttal, as our television program speaks for itself.

Euronews Serbia's response to the news of the termination of Marija Šehić.

Media associations in Serbia, in recent months, together with political parties and in coordination with the media of United Group, have issued statements through Euronews that actually attack Telekom Srbija, while the NUNS and UNS have remained unresponsive to the dismissal of dozens of journalists. They employ barefaced tabloid techniques—without a single call, without verifying any accusations, and without any evidence.

In this obvious business-political alliance, the dismissal of Marija Šehić, which followed numerous warnings and systematically repeated mistakes, was used as a pretext for yet another in a series of these attacks. To be fair, although we did not intend to harm this journalist by detailing the dismissal, we must state that her numerous professional shortcomings, such as quoting a fake post from X as official information from the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad during an Euronews program, severely undermined the reputation and credibility of our editorial team. Particularly because Euronews had previously reported on the same post as a powerful source of disinformation.

This is not in line with the standards of the journalistic profession or the principles of Euronews Serbia, nor is it consistent with the "decent journalism" that media associations refer to in their statement. It is, in fact, contrary to all of that.

Euronews Serbia remains committed to preserving free and independent journalism, as well as responsible and professional reporting, without spreading disinformation, and will not yield to the pressure of any political option, nor to the pressure from a segment of the public that demands reporting be adapted to their desires and preferences.

The announced changes in Euronews's operations have nothing to do with politics, nor do they coincide temporally with political events in the country, as they were initiated much earlier and are a result of the owner's efforts to implement a digitalization strategy, following the example of leading global media, while simultaneously raising viewership and the professional level of the editorial team, which operates under the standards of the license it represents and whose criteria it respects.

No information is omitted in our programming, questions are posed to authorities, and their criticisms regarding our work are conveyed, including the opinions of employees who disagreed with the recent management statement regarding the blockade of RTS. The public, as well as the media associations now claiming that the changes in the systematization are retaliation against the signatories of this statement, were informed precisely through our television program, where that statement was read in the news for two full days.

The media associations maliciously claim that this dismissal is an act of revenge. We ask them whether all the signatories of the allegedly contentious statement have protected themselves from any kind of responsibility for professional mistakes? Does that act of signing make them untouchable and protected from all forms of professional criticism? And does this mean that for them, the Code of Journalists of Serbia no longer applies?

Since the sole aim of this political-business alliance is the attack and discrediting of Telekom Srbija as the owner of the Euronews license for Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, there will no longer be responses to such statements.
