Commissioner Antonijević: Public Warning Regarding the Statement of the Editor-in-Chief of Informer

Every criminal act has a name and surname, not a nationality, and if there were thefts of cables or threats to railway traffic over the weekend, this should be addressed by the police, the prosecutor's office, and the relevant public enterprises, based on facts and evidence, said the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, in response to the statement made by the chief editor of Informer, Dragan J. Vučićević.

Commissioner Antonijević: Public Warning Regarding the Statement of the Editor-in-Chief of Informer

Commissioner Antonijević emphasizes that it is unacceptable to associate the entire Roma community with crime, issues on the tracks, or political blockades, as such generalizations deepen prejudices, promote intolerance, and further endanger individuals who already face discrimination on a daily basis.

Commissioner Antonijević stated that public discourse, especially when coming from media with a wide reach, must be free of stereotypes and responsible, particularly when discussing national minorities.

In a statement, he reminded that the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination prohibits the dissemination of ideas, information, and opinions that promote prejudices and intolerance towards members of national minorities.
