Commissioner for the Protection of Equality: Competition for the Media Award

The goal of the competition is to promote values such as equality, tolerance, and to combat prejudice and stereotypes against minority, marginalized, and vulnerable groups, as well as to raise the visibility of the Commissioner’s institution.

Journalists from all printed and electronic, local and national media registered in Serbia, who have published articles/reports on the competition topic from September 15, 2024, to September 15, 2025, are eligible to participate in the competition. Multiple journalists from the same media outlet can participate, but each may submit only one article/report. Additionally, journalists who have received awards in the previous two years are not eligible to compete for this year's awards.

The criteria for evaluation will include: recognition of the phenomenon of discrimination, contribution to reducing stereotypes and prejudices, affirmative reporting, and promotion of equality.

Media articles and reports must be submitted by email by September 15, 2025 to: poverenik@ravnopravnost.gov.rs. The application for the competition should include the media report/article and a brief biography with the author's contact information. Submission format: for radio and television – a link to the broadcasted report, for printed and online media – a link or published text in PDF format.

Awards will be given in three categories, specifically first, second, and third for:

radio or TV report (up to 3 minutes) or documentary (up to 30 minutes);

text from daily or weekly print media/newspapers;

online media/portals in video or textual format.

The expert jury will consist of previous winners of the first prizes in all three categories, as well as representatives from the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the Media Department of the OSCE Mission to Serbia. The best media contributions and the names of the authors will be announced at a conference traditionally held on November 16, International Day for Tolerance, and will subsequently be published on the website and social media of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the OSCE Mission in Serbia.

We believe that your media outlet will recognize the significance and importance of this competition and that you will encourage your colleagues to apply.
