Radar: Unacceptable Targeting of Journalists

Intimidation of journalists through threats will not stop our investigative work in the public interest, and the truth about the sound cannon cannot be halted by any campaign, even if numerous pro-government media are involved. The editorial team of Radar will hold the authorities fully responsible for any threats to the safety of its journalists and freedom of expression.

Instead of investigating what really happened on March 15, 2025, at the largest protest gathering, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, after more than 15 months, announced that it had ordered the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), specifically the Anti-Terrorism Unit, to determine the identity of the individuals who allegedly "organized the preparation for the simulation of the use of the sound cannon."

Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Miodrag Marković stated that four groups of individuals are being investigated, and that “the third group consists of individuals who provided media support, those who posted on social media or in certain media,” adding that “their identities are more or less known.”

This was enough for an orchestrated campaign by the highest officials and media close to them, many of whom specifically targeted Radar due to the cover story “The Day Vučić Shot the People in the Back” and the author of the article Milan Radonjić, who published the results of an investigation into how the authorities prepared for the major protest gathering of students and citizens on March 15, 2025, just ahead of the first anniversary of the unfortunate events on March 12, 2026.

The authorities and the media under their control pointed fingers at other individuals who have openly spoken about the use of sound weapons in the past period, claiming that "the blockaders and their mentors are bothered by a free Serbia led by Vučić,” that they are “traitors and blockaders who wanted to destroy Serbia,” and that they “planned a civil war”...

The editorial board and staff of Radar demand that representatives of the authorities cease their threats and targeting of Radar journalist Milan Radonjić, who, due to their irresponsible statements, is becoming a living target, just as Veran Matić and Danica Vučenić have become in recent days, along with many other colleagues before them.
