Saša Mirković: No one has taken responsibility for the first process of selecting members of the REM that failed.

"We entered this process without any analysis of how it happened to us and how to avoid it happening again," said Mirković on Radio-Television Vojvodina.

The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia announced on Friday, June 13, that 78 proposers and 16 candidates withdrew from the process of electing new members of the REM Council.

He stated that "there is no genuine political will from the ruling elite" to enforce the laws they have written.

"We cannot, nor do we want to engage in dialogue with the authorities about how the law is implemented, while they are constantly exerting pressure on us," Mirković said.

Ivana Stevanović, Executive Director of the "Slavko Ćuruvija" Foundation, said that the continuation of the alignment of proposers, which began on Friday and was supposed to continue today, has been "postponed without explanation."

"It was impossible for us to remain in this process because we would thereby legitimize the dismantling of the media landscape through REM and the broader erosion of the rule of law and the suspension of the application of laws," Stevanović stated.

She assessed that it "does not seem" that a public hearing for the candidates for the election of REM members, announced by the Committee of the National Assembly of Serbia for Culture and Information for Monday, June 23, will take place.
