Support gathering for Palestinian journalists in front of the Government of Serbia: names of the deceased read aloud, minute of silence.
In front of the building of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, a support gathering for Palestinian journalists reporting from Gaza was held today, during which a minute of silence was observed to honor journalists who died in the Israeli bombardment. The attendees read the names of their fallen colleagues.

The gathering was organized by the Institute for Media and Diversity – Western Balkans, the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (NUNS), and the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS).
According to data from the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), at least 244 journalists have been killed since the beginning of the war in Gaza: 221 Palestinian journalists in Israeli attacks on Gaza, nine in Israeli attacks on Lebanon and Yemen, one in Syria, and four Israeli journalists were also killed in the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
“Our colleagues in Gaza are being systematically targeted and killed for telling the truth. But you cannot kill the truth. It lives through us, and that is why we are here today, to express solidarity with our colleagues who continue to report, and to remember those who were killed for doing their job. We are also here today to demand that foreign media be allowed entry into Gaza so that we can help our colleagues on the ground and report alongside them,” stated Ivana Jovanović from the Institute for Media and Diversity – Western Balkans, addressing the attendees on behalf of the organizers.
Jovanović also reminded that Serbia exports weapons to Israel and called on the authorities to “stop cooperating with institutions that commit genocide.” “We remind you that Serbia has an obligation under the Genocide Convention to ‘prevent and punish the crime of genocide,’ using all measures available to it. We demand that the Serbian government fulfill this obligation – immediately cease all cooperation with Israel and stop being an accomplice in genocide,” she added.
After the organizers' speeches, the names of the killed journalists in Gaza were read, and the gathering concluded with a moment of silence.
