Serbia has fallen eight places on the Index of Media Freedom, now ranking 104th out of 180 countries this year.

When considering the countries in the region, Serbia is ranked behind Slovenia at 36th place, Montenegro at 41st, North Macedonia at 45th, Croatia at 53rd, Albania at 83rd, Kosovo at 84th, and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 90th position.

The report from Reporters Without Borders states that, except for Kosovo, which has advanced by 15 places, media freedom in the Western Balkans is generally declining. Albania has fallen by three positions, Bosnia by four, and Serbia by as many as eight. Although they aspire to become EU members, it is noted that all three countries are hostile towards journalism and prone to propaganda.
