Stop the persecution of journalists: Who has been fired for expressing their opinions?
We gather to stand in solidarity against the persecution of journalists in Serbia.

At the gathering "Stop the Persecution of Journalists" tomorrow, June 20, at 12 PM, in the Press Center of UNS, Knez Mihailova 6/3, journalists who have been dismissed, Sandra Gucijan, Marija Šehić, and Vojislava Crnjanski Spasojević, the President of the European Federation of Journalists Maja Sever, the General Secretary of NUNS Tamara Filipović, the lawyer of UNS and Vojislava Crnjanski Spasojević Gordana Konstantinović, the lawyer for Marija Šehić Sara El Sarag, the lawyer for Tara Đukić David Jakopčević, the President of ANEM Veran Matić, and the Deputy President of the GS KUM Nezavisnost Dane Markovski will speak.
The dismissal of the well-known TV host Marija Šehić from Euronews Serbia, due to "negligent or careless performance of work duties" and "violation of work discipline," followed the degradation and mutual agreement for departure of several others who did not wish to work under the newly imposed conditions at this media outlet.
At the editorial office of "Večernje novosti", the experienced journalist in the Society and Culture section Vojislava Crnjanski Spasojević quickly became a "technological surplus" after she publicly protested against the disclosure of personal data of students in the online edition of this media.
In "Politika", after two or three decades, the editor of the Chronicle Dorotea Čarnić and the editor of the Weekend edition Sandra Gucijan became "technological surpluses" after they expressed their personal views regarding the student protests on their private social media profiles.
The editor of the online edition of Elle for Serbia, Tara Đukić, opposed the removal of a published article about students. The publisher, Mondo Inc, publicly justified the dismissal by stating that "the web editor did not meet the plans" and that there was a "significant decline in business parameters" within her area of work.
"We stand against the harshest pressures on journalists who are professionally doing their job, against the abuse of media, and due to the violation of the Law on Public Information and Media, which guarantees that a journalist cannot have their employment terminated, or their salary or compensation reduced because they expressed a personal opinion," states the announcement of the event organized by UNS and NUNS.
