UNS: Investigate the alarming threats against Veran Matić and provide him with protection.

“If any of you see Veran Matić in the next month or two, tell him he is not the only (pseudo)journalist who has grown a beard and to be a little more patient, the continuation is coming soon…,” reads the controversial post by the Center for Social Stability on the social media platform X.

UNS is particularly concerned about the similarity of this post to a statement made by then Vice President of the Serbian Radical Party, Tomislav Nikolić, in 2003, just before the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić, when he said: “If any of you see Zoran Đinđić anywhere in the next month or two, tell him that even Tito had problems with his leg before his death.”

UNS finds it alarming that the allusion to the beard, as concluded by Matić himself, reminds of the murdered journalist Slavko Ćuruvija.

UNS calls on the Prosecutor's Office to take this case seriously and to file charges against those responsible as soon as possible.

UNS reminds that the Criminal Code stipulates that threatening the safety of individuals performing a public service through information carries a penalty of six months to five years in prison.
