UNS: Identify and punish those responsible for the threats against Veran Matić.

In a comment on Vuksan Dragović's Facebook page, a threat to Matić was left from the profile "Aleksandar Mosić": "Hang the bastard and leave the corpse for animals to devour." From the profile named "Bratislav Nikolić," a message was posted: "First, we will sacrifice you," while a certain Miloš Nikolić wrote: "He will stop living soon," Goran Rakić stated: "This filthy ustasha needs to be dealt with publicly," and Goran Gajić commented: "Where does he live? In Serbia? What are we waiting for?"

Below the same Dragović text on platform X, a message was left: “... we will sacrifice him first.”

On the Instagram account of the same author, there is a post stating, “Man, this guy doesn't even know how to speak Serbian, yet he has sent so many Serbs to their deaths…”

Matić confirmed to UNS that he reported these threats to the Special Prosecutor's Office for High-Tech Crime, as he has done in all previous cases.

“I have reported at least seven or eight threats so far. I went to the Prosecutor's Office to provide information and statements. So far, there have been no developments, not even in the case of the propaganda film 'Evil Era,' for which the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists requested the initiation of proceedings from the Prosecutor's Office for High-Tech Crime,” he stated.

Matić emphasized that he requested a security assessment from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia due to the numerous threats he has been exposed to, as well as the campaigns directed against him.

“I sent a request to the Ministry a few days ago. I also informed international organizations and representatives of the European Commission,” Matić emphasized.

UNS stresses that the effective action of the police and the prosecutor's office is crucial for protecting the safety of journalists and preventing an atmosphere of impunity.

UNS highlights that the authorities must take the threats against Veran Matić seriously, especially since they represent an open call for his assassination.

UNS points out that the Criminal Code stipulates that threatening the safety of individuals performing public interest work is punishable by a prison sentence of six months to five years.
