Valić Nedeljković: We would return to the REM Council, but only with guarantees.

Professor Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, who resigned from her position as a member of the REM Council along with three other elected members, stated on the UNS website that their agreement is to return only if they receive guarantees that the ninth member will be elected after the elections for the national councils and on the condition that Ištvan Bodžoni is not on the list for candidate alignment.

Valić Nedeljković: We would return to the REM Council, but only with guarantees.

“We have agreed: if we have guarantees that the ninth member will be elected only after the elections for the national councils (because otherwise the legitimacy would be questionable) and if Mr. Bodžoni is not on the list for harmonization, and considering that our resignations have not been verified by the Assembly, we would return to the process,” says Valić Nedeljković for UNS.

Bodžoni is the candidate of the Hungarian national minority who, according to previous statements from the Association of Vojvodina Hungarians, entered the procedure after the election for the ninth member was repeated, since the Assembly did not elect either of the two originally proposed candidates – from the Bosniak and Albanian councils – in November last year. Valić Nedeljković previously explained that she and the other members who submitted their resignations refused to participate in that repeated procedure, deeming it non-transparent.

Additionally, the parliamentary committee has invited the four members who submitted resignations – Rodoljub Šabić, Mileva Malešević, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik, and Dubravka Valić Nedeljković – to assume their roles in REM, reports Fonet.

The committee also accepted that the newly formed Council of REM create a new Statute of REM.

As a reminder, members of the Council of REM Rodoljub Šabić, Mileva Malešević, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik, and Dubravka Valić Nedeljković submitted their resignations for these positions at the office of the Assembly of Serbia on December 19.

The committee adopted the opinion of the professional service that there are no legal obstacles for these four members to submit a declaration accepting the position, given that their resignations have not been verified by the Assembly of Serbia.
