Veran Matić (ANEM): The authorities are continuously attempting to falsify reality.
The President of the Board of the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM), Veran Matić, stated that since August there have been more than 22 attacks by police officers on journalists, and that these attacks were anticipated during gatherings of government supporters against the blockades.
Matić stated in today's edition of the newspaper Danas that the presence of professional journalists at these gatherings is undesirable, "because the authorities continuously attempt to falsify reality."
"They falsify everything, from the number of attendees, through the messages and demands of participants, to the very nature of the protests. Professional journalists expose the reality that is completely inconsistent with the government's propaganda through tabloid media and the selective reporting of public services," Matić noted.
Commenting on the police's actions towards journalists, he assessed that the police established a "new standard" at the beginning of the protests in November of last year by ignoring attacks on journalists.
"Security personnel at SNS gatherings attacked journalists without any hindrance, while the police present did not adequately respond to the reports filed by journalists on site. Since the middle of the year, intervention units have begun to apply violence against demonstrators, during which both female and male journalists were attacked," Matić added.
