"Veran Matić is not alone": Former employees of B92 seek punishment for the Center for Social Stability.

They refer to the latest statement from the Center for Social Stability, in which Veran Matić is threatened with death, stating: “We demand that the prosecution react immediately. We demand punishment for the dangerous actions of the Center for Social Stability. When you threaten Veran Matić, you threaten all of us,” as mentioned in the video being shared on social media.

As a reminder, the Center for Social Stability has continued to publish threatening messages towards Veran Matić through its accounts on social media platforms X and Instagram. These messages were posted on March 17 and 18. The post states: “If any of you see Veran Matić in the next month or two, tell him he is not the only (pseudo) journalist who has grown a beard and to be just a little more patient, the sequel is coming soon…”

The media community assesses that this is an unequivocal direct threat to life. The phrase: “If any of you see… in the next month or two…” refers to the “prophetic” statement made by Tomislav Nikolić before the assassination of Zoran Đinđić. Instead of Zoran Đinđić, it calls for a meeting with Veran Matić, who is compared to a “(pseudo) journalist” that has grown a beard. Only two journalists have worn beards and met their end like Zoran Đinđić: Milan Pantić and Slavko Ćuruvija.

In response to these threats, domestic journalist and media associations, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), the OSCE representative on media freedom Jan Bratu, and the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists have submitted an amendment to the criminal complaint against the Center for Social Stability.

As a reminder, over 180 former employees and collaborators of the former RTV B92 reacted in February to the ongoing attacks on Veran Matić with a letter of support, stating that they demand “an urgent end to the campaign of hatred by media close to the authorities against Veran Matić, who has dedicated his entire life to promoting media freedom and protecting journalists and media professionals.”
