Attorney Milić (NDNV): The prosecution needs to investigate abuses in media competitions.
The Director for Legal Affairs of the Independent Journalists' Association of Vojvodina (NDNV), attorney Veljko Milić, stated this evening that it is "tragicomic" that the prosecutor's office is suing tabloids instead of initiating an investigation into the ways in which media in Serbia are financed.

"If journalists can access all that data – and they can – then the prosecution can do the same in a few days," said Milić at the NDNV forum in Novi Sad.
He added that there are "significant abuses" in project co-financing of media content of public interest.
Milić called on the prosecution to "start doing its job" and to investigate abuses in the competitions for project co-financing of media projects.
He reminded that these criminal acts do not have a statute of limitations for 20 years, for projects worth more than one and a half million dinars.
He stated that regime tabloids in Serbia commit at least 10-15 violations of the Code of Journalists of Serbia on a daily basis.
The forum was held as part of the project "Strengthening Mechanisms for Providing Legal Assistance to Journalists in Vojvodina," which is supported by UNESCO.
