ANEM ALARM: The editorial offices of OzonPress and Čačanske novine were hit with eggs.
Unknown individuals early this morning pelted the entrance of the OzonPress and Čačanske novine editorial offices with eggs. The incident has been reported to the police, and as Stojan Marković, the owner of these Čačanske media outlets, stated to ANEM, a patrol arrived at the scene, took statements, and prepared a report.
The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) demands that the police identify the perpetrators of the intimidation of this local, critical media as soon as possible. OzonPress and Čačanske novine are frequently targets of threats and attacks, which they have stopped reporting due to the lack of response from institutions over a certain period of time.
During a recent meeting that representatives of ANEM and the Permanent Working Group for Journalist Safety in Čačak held with representatives of local media, a number of threats and testimonies regarding the jeopardization of the safety of journalists and editorial offices were presented.
We remind that local media in Serbia are particularly endangered and that, in addition to the economic problems they have been facing for a long time, there have been increasingly pronounced political and other forms of pressure on their work over the past year. Any form of intimidation, attack, and obstruction of local journalists and media further jeopardizes their safety and normal functioning in already difficult circumstances.
Informing the public at the local level is of exceptional importance for any society, and the relevant authorities must protect media representatives, enable them to work without hindrance, and thereby ensure uninterrupted and quality information for citizens on topics of public interest.
We also call on journalists and media representatives to regularly report any kind of threat to their safety while performing their work through the Safe Line at 0800 100 115.
