ANEM invites media in Serbia to join the global solidarity action with journalists from Gaza on September 1st.

In a global action, nearly 200 media outlets from at least 50 countries will simultaneously black out their front pages and homepages and suspend programming on Monday, September 1st, to demand an end to the killing of journalists in Gaza and to call for international access to the region. The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) urges all journalists and media in Serbia to join this protest action.

ANEM invites media in Serbia to join the global solidarity action with journalists from Gaza on September 1st.

The protest is organized by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), the global movement Avaaz, and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). Print media will publish blacked-out front pages with a clear message. Television and radio stations will pause their programming to broadcast a joint statement. Online media will black out their homepages or banners in a show of solidarity.

Media outlets are invited to publish the message:

“At the rate the Israeli army is killing journalists in Gaza, soon there will be no one left to inform you.” #ProtectJournalistsInGaza #LetReportersIntoGaza

For 23 months, Israeli authorities have refused to grant journalists outside Gaza independent access to Palestinian territory. Local journalists, who are in the best position to convey the truth, face displacement and hunger. To date, the Israeli army has killed at least 210 journalists. Many others have been injured and are exposed to life threats daily simply for doing their job – they testify.

How can media outlets participate?

Print media:

  • Completely black front page with a unified message
  • Completely black front page without a message – report inside the newspaper
  • Partially black front page (half page or banner) with a message
  • Blacked-out/modified header

Online media:

  • Black banner with a unified message and a link to the RSF statement.
  • Black banner without a message, with a link to the RSF statement.

TV and radio:

Broadcast the following message – text on a black screen for TV channels, voice with a metronome sound in the background for radio:

“At the rate the Israeli army is killing journalists in Gaza, soon there will be no one left to inform you. For nearly 23 months, in this territory, the Israeli army has killed at least 210 journalists, according to Reporters Without Borders. Together with more than 150 media outlets worldwide, we condemn these crimes. We call on the Israeli authorities to grant independent access to international media in the Gaza Strip.”

Social media:

Post this message on X/Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Tag @RSF_inter, @Avaaz, and @IFJGlobal and use #ProtectJournalistsInGaza #LetReportersIntoGaza

Personal message: Record a short video of yourself reading the unified message and share it with the specified hashtags.

Follow @RSF_inter, @Avaaz, and @IFJGlobal on social media and share the content they will post that day.

We remind you that ANEM and the B92 Fund have joined the action and called on citizens and journalists in Serbia to participate and collect aid for journalists in Gaza. Testimonies from journalists can be read on the website and on ANEM's YouTube page as part of the series “Voices from Gaza.”
