SERBIA'S MEDIA SCENE IN JUNE 2024

It has been 23 years since the murder of journalist Milan Pantić. The difference in the position taken by the representatives of the journalistic profession in the Commission for Investigating the Murders of Journalists and the representatives of the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime - crystallized after the commemoration.

The regular meeting of the Permanent Working Group for the Safety of Journalists was marked by the consideration of objections raised in connection with the conduct of investigative actions in the case of a physical attack on journalist Vuk Cvijić. The request to make the implementation of investigative actions in the case of attacks on journalists effective is still unfulfilled. The meeting also discussed everything that was done in the case of threats and pressures to which Ana Lalić Hegediš, Dinko Gruhonjić, Gordana Momčilović Ilić, Verica Marinčić, Isidora Kovačević and Uglješa Bokić were exposed.

The fate of Andrey Gnyot, the Belarusian journalist who was informed of the decision to extradite him to the Belarusian authorities in June, excited both the domestic and foreign professional public. This case is still not resolved.

During June, the threats directed at journalists and the pressure exerted on them - apart from their unpleasant "everyday life" - also had an election day for increased "outpouring". That day, among other things, tear gas was thrown at journalists who were reporting near the Novi Sad Fair.

The June report talks about lawsuits filed against IN Media portal and its editor-in-chief Verica Marinčić, and against the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation by Milan Radonjić (former head of the Belgrade center of the State Security Department) and Miroslav Kurak (former member of the Secret Service). As is also discussed about the legally binding verdicts - in the proceedings that the commander of the Unit for the Protection of Participants in Criminal Proceedings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and two of his associates conducted against the journalist, editor-in-chief and founder of the newsroom of the KRIK portal, and in the civil proceedings following the lawsuit of Predrag Koluvija against the KRIK portal and its editor-in-chief Stevan Dojčinović.

About all that, and what is "in between" you can fing in the Monitoring of the media scene in Serbia for the month of June 2024.
