Veran Matić for Radio Novi Sad: Drawing attention to the fates of journalists in Gaza.

"The wider public is unaware. International journalism organizations are documenting these crimes. One of the reasons for launching Voices from Gaza is to draw attention to the fates of journalists. I believe that regardless of our difficult present, and perhaps precisely because of it, our public has a special sensitivity to this issue. It is important for the media to support and convey these texts," emphasized Matić.

According to data from Reporters Without Borders, the Israeli army has killed 220 journalists in the Gaza Strip in less than 23 months. Just on the night of August 10, six journalists were killed in a targeted attack on Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif.

A week ago, on August 25, the Israeli army killed five journalists in two consecutive attacks. Many more journalists were injured in these attacks. Journalists also face constant life threats while performing their duties – reporting, which represents a direct assault on media freedom and the right to information.

Moreover, the Israeli authorities have been refusing journalists outside the Gaza Strip independent access to this Palestinian territory for 23 months, which is an unprecedented situation in modern warfare.

A global protest campaign has been launched, calling for the protection of journalists in the Gaza Strip, an end to impunity for crimes against them, and for foreign media to be granted access to this Palestinian enclave.

We remind you that ANEM and the B92 Fund have joined the campaign and called on citizens and journalists in Serbia to participate in collecting aid for journalists in Gaza.

Testimonies from journalists can be read on the website and on the YouTube page of ANEM as part of the series "Voices from Gaza".
